Choosing the Right Keywords for Your SEO Campaign

Monday, August 30th, 2010

When it comes to making money with Adsense, choosing the right keywords makes all the difference. Good keywords can make your traffic and your income soar, while on the other hand, bad keyword selection can prevent your business from ever getting off the ground.

Before you add Adsense to an existing site or build a new Adsense site, you need to start with keyword research. Spend some time on this step and do your homework, but by no means fall into paralysis by analysis. Choosing your keywords shouldn’t be overwhelming. There are Adsense guides out there like Fatcat Blueprint that simplify this process for you, while showing you how to find the most profitable keywords. For right now, here are some basic tips you can take advantage of.

1. Start by answering some elementary questions. What makes your site unique or different from the competition? Who are you targeting? Know your audience. If you were in the market for your product, how would you search for it? What words or phrases would you search on. Write all these answers down and keep them handy as you search for descriptive keywords in the next steps.

2. To research keywords, you’ll want to use a keyword tool, like Google AdWords, to do your research. Pay particular attention at the search volume and competition rating for each potential keyword. Ideally, you want keywords that are have high search volume, but low competition. That means the phrase is being searched on by tons of people, but there aren’t many websites targeting them. This will bring free traffic to your google adsense web page.

3. Don’t be too broad – aim for long-tailed keywords. The more specific you are, the lower your chance of facing tons of competition. Your goal is to end up on page 1 of the search results on a term people search for. Repeatedly, studies show that more than half of internet searchers click on a link from page 1 – that’s why it’s so important to get there. For example, if you’re trying to sell a product that targets people wanting to lose weight, don’t target the keyword ‘weight loss’ because it’s such a broad topic. Selecting a broad keyword like ‘weight loss’ has so much competition that you will probably never rank on the first page of Google. Instead, go for keywords like ’safe weight loss for woman’ or ‘losing pounds after child birth’. This way, you’re targeting a very specific group that’s looking for a solution to a problem.

I hope these few tips were helpful. Remember you can find many more professional tips plus a blueprint of how to put it all together in Fatcat Blueprint. Don’t wait another minute to start making money with Adsense.

Apply These Valuable Web Design Tips

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

There are many webmasters who worry that large amounts of traffic will flood to their site each month. Well, actually, there’s nothing wrong with that as having visitors to your site is very important, but you also need to have a well designed site that will cause them to stay. Having a unique product to sell and spending time and money on advertising is all great, but if the visitors aren’t going to stay on your site long enough there’s absolutely no use. This factor is often ignored by many webmasters because they tend to focus more on reaching their target audience rather than site design. You don’t want to leave a bad impression with your visitors, which is exactly what a badly designed site will do. So if you’re looking for some tips on web design, here are a few web design tips you’ll want to keep in mind.

Keeping it as simple as possible and staying away from clutter is a simple web design tip to remember. Sure, it’s fun to use cool Photoshop effects or use flash based animation on your site, but keeping it simple without all that business will pay off when it comes to the long run. You’d hate to put your site’s visitors off by designing a site that’s confusing and cluttered. Instead, you can create an appealing website design by organizing the information on the page so visitors can easily find whatever it is they’re searching for. Also, create a balance between text and visual since you want each of it to complement each other, if your text overpowers the visual or vice versa, then it’s not right. Don’t forget to optimize your images so that your site loads faster.

Nowadays, it makes sense to keep the flash away from your site. It’s really true that many people do not have a fast internet connection, and your flash will never live long enough to load for them. Flash and SEO do not go well together, either. The visitor will lose interest if the site takes too much time to open, people online are impatient, so you don’t want them to keep them waiting. Flash based websites were really popular in the start when they were introduced. The bottom line is that you need to listen to what your market audience wants. It depends on your situation, if you’re not really in it for the money, and you want to look really good – then flash is for you. But beyond that, if you are looking out to make some real money and build a strong relationship, then valuable content with some attractive graphics is the key to success. Take a look at this site for a friend of mine who is a london magician and you can see that without flash and good link structures you can still have an attractive website.

You’ll only annoy your visitor if you have music, and it starts to play right away when someone visits. Visitors want to be in control, so let them decide if your cool tunes get played, or not. Also, those video walk-ons you see now, be very careful because they do it automatically and it isn’t always appreciated. Just hand over control to your visitors because that’s what they want.

You’ll want to make sure your design gets it right regarding the best and accustomed locations on your site. Generating traffic to your site can be done using various methods, but having a website that gets a positive response is critcal.

How to Get Your Site on the Internet

Monday, November 17th, 2008

If you’d like to get your own web site up on the Internet, but you’re not sure how to go about doing it, you have a few choices:

1. You can hire a professional web designer.

Although this will be the easiest route to take, depending on what you need, this can be very expensive.

You can find web designers who will bid on your project at any of the following web sites:

RentaCoder.com
eLance.com
Guru.com
ScriptLance.com

2. You can purchase a web page template and pay the company to edit it for you.

This is also an easy route to take; however, can also be expensive.

3. You can purchase a web page template and edit it yourself.

This requires you to learn some basic HTML; however, is one of the least expensive options, if you don’t mind that the template is also sold to other people.

4. You can use a service that will enable you to design your own pages right online.

This is a great choice if you want to get your site online quickly, but want to avoid the expense of hiring someone to design the site for you. This option will provide you with a quick and easy way to visually design your own web site right online without learning HTML. In addition, they will also host your site.

5. You can take the time to educate yourself and design your web site yourself.

This is also a great option, as I highly recommend that you take some time to educate yourself and at least learn some basic HTML. However, this option is also going to take the most time. If this is the route you’d like to take, my Web Design Mastery course will take you step by step through designing your own web site.

If money isn’t an issue and you just want to get your web site up as quickly as possible without doing any of the work yourself, you will most likely want to go with option one or two.

However, if you don’t mind doing some of the work yourself, but really don’t want to learn HTML, your best option will be option 4.

Increase Your Search Engine Ranking

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

If you’re looking for a way to increase your Search Engine ranking, your first step should be to optimize your web page.

Here are some basic guidelines to assist you:

1. Use your most relevant keyword phrase within the title of your web page. A keyword phrase is two or more words that best describe your web page. If your web page is focusing on grooming a dog, then your best keyword phrase will be ‘dog grooming.’

Each page should focus on one main keyword phrase used in different variations.

2. Place the title of your page at the top of your page within a HEADING tag.

3. Place sub headings within your content that contain your most relevant keyword phrase used in different variations.

4. Always include your most relevant keyword phrase at the bottom of your web page.

5. When creating links, always create your links with your keywords. For example, if your web page focuses on dog training, create your links something like this:

Dog Training Tips
Dog Obedience
Dog Socialization
Dog House Training
Dog Crate Training
Dog Behavior
Dog Barking
Dog Aggression
Dog Biting
Dog Chewing
Dog Digging

6. When creating your secondary web pages, name them using the keyword phrase that best describes the page. For example, if your page contains dog grooming tips, name your page dog_grooming_tips.html.

7. When displaying images on your web page, name your images with your keywords and include your keywords within an ALT tag. For example, if the image is of a dog being trained, your image code might look something like this:

<img src=”dog_training.jpg” alt=”dog training image”>

8. Although many Search Engines are no longer using META tags to rank web sites, some still do. For this reason, it is still important to include them within your pages. META tags are HTML code that is placed between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags and instruct the browser.

The META description tag will contain a description of your site. This description will be visible in some of the Search Engines when your site is returned in a search.

Your description should focus on your site’s most important keyword phrases. Your primary keyword phrase should be placed at the very beginning of your description followed by one or two secondary keyword phrases. Your description should be less than 200 characters, including spaces, and should be a readable sentence.

Example:

<META name=”DESCRIPTION” content=”Providing dog training tips, obedience, and behavior information.”>

The META Keywords tag will contain a listing of your keyword phrases separated with a comma. Your primary keyword phrase should be first, followed by one or two secondary keyword phrases. These keyword phrases should be in the same order as they are displayed within your description.

Example:

<META name=”KEYWORDS” content=”dog training tips, dog obedience training, dog behavior training”>

The key to ranking high in the Search Engines and driving highly targeted traffic to your site is to select highly targeted keyword phrases that are less competitive and less generalized. You don’t want to target every little possible keyword; you want to focus on your primary keyword phrases for each page.
